Stefan L. Smith Scores and Writes Songs for New PBS Kids Musical Shorts “Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures”

Composer and violist Stefan L. Smith (he/him) has scored and written original songs for the new PBS Kids “Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures”, a 2D animated series aimed at strengthening children’s literacy at the pre-school and kindergarten level. These three minute shorts employ original songs composed by Stefan to engage viewers in learning about spelling, pronunciation, alliteration, and punctuation.

Inspired by the 2007 Emmy-winning series Super Why!, which was proven to improve children’s early reading and literacy skills per a 2009 report from the Annenberg School for Communication, “Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures” aims to continue teaching a whole new generation of children the fun of learning English in a catchy and memorable way.

“We are so excited to introduce ‘Super Why’s Comic Book Adventures,’ with its fresh, musically driven format, to a new generation of ‘Super Why!’ fans,” said Sara DeWitt, PBS Kids’ senior vice president and general manager. “The dynamic comic book design makes it an aspirational Super Reader superhero experience that will support and encourage today’s budding readers.”
