Stanley A. Smith Scores National Geographic Documentary Special ‘The Real Red Tails’

Stanley A. Smith (he/him) has scored The Real Red Tails, a one-hour National Geographic documentary special narrated by Sheryl Lee Ralph (“Abbott Elementary”). Produced by National Geographic’s Yellow Border Production Services with Erin M. Reuss as producer and Jeanine I. Butler as executive producer, the film recounts the discovery of a P-39 airplane in Lake Huron, Michigan. This plane belonged to Tuskegee pilot and 22-year-old Second Lieutenant Frank Moody, who had gone on a routine training mission but then ultimately perished when his plane mysteriously malfunctioned and took a nosedive into the lake below. This discovery of the wreckage reignites a story lost to time and triggering one of the most important WW2 archeological missions in the Great Lakes.

The Real Red Tails premieres on National Geographic tonight June 3rd at 8/7c and begins streaming on Disney+ and Hulu on June 4. You can watch a trailer for the special below.
