Rebekka Karijord Scored Doc ‘Songs of Earth’ Set for TIFF North American Premiere

Songs of Earth, a nature documentary filmed by Margreth Olin and scored by Rebekka Karijord, is an Official Selection at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival. TIFF is one of the largest publicly attended film festivals around the world and will be hosting Songs of Earth’s North American Premiere.

In this unique cinematic experience, filmmaker Margreth Olin allows viewers to experience Norway’s landscapes of mountains, glaciers, and fjords, guided by her 84-year-old father, Jørgen, enabling us to escape the hyperactivity of modern times and absorb the profundity of nature.

When writing the music, Rebekka devised an unorthodox approach to scoring that involved taking field recordings of the glaciers, forest, and river within the valley and working closely with the London Contemporary Orchestra to translate them into a musical, orchestral palette. This unique method of composing brings the music even closer to embodying the essence of the nature seen on screen, connecting on a deeper emotional level the wonder that is truly all around us.
