New Signing: Composers Caleb & Brian Chan

Spectra Creative Agency is thrilled to welcome Caleb & Brian Chan to the Spectra family!

Raised in Hong Kong and Vancouver, brothers Caleb and Brian Chan are creatively at home in mixed contexts. They write with a wide palette of colors, nuanced imaginations, and a deep admiration of music from many spaces. Early introductions to classical and church music followed by rigorous studies in instrumental performance were met with youthful discoveries of the local indie scene and inspired beginnings of a hack job home studio. A continuous curiosity in both traditional conventions and new boundaries of sonic expression grew naturally.

What emerged from this lifelong collaboration is music that is dynamic and intersects organic textures, modern orchestra, and experimental synthesis. Coupled with a love for compelling narrative, the brothers provide a unique voice to picture by crafting thoughtful scores.

In film and TV, recent projects include providing the swampy, off-kilter score for dramedy series Panhandle (Sony/Spectrum) and crafting eight distinct palettes of horror score for Sam Raimi’s anthology series 50 States of Fright (Roku). 2022 saw the release of three animated series. Their two DreamWorks series – Pinecone and Pony (Apple TV+) with an endearingly rich medieval-orchestral-folk adventure score and Team Zenko Go (Netflix) with an 808-infused heist score – have both garnered CASMA nominations. They were also awarded a Leo Award for their music on Netflix’s Angry Birds: Summer Madness, an eclectic and wildly quirky reimagination of the popular franchise. Other credits include music for Lifetime, Hallmark, Spinmaster, and Hasbro.

Beyond scoring, the brothers join to form Heis. Their latest instrumental album, Good Weather, is a collection of slow-moving and meditative pieces for an isolating time. In addition, as arrangers, performers, and producers, they enjoy frequent collaborations with indie and pop artists in studio and on stage. They also make up two-thirds of the songwriting collective Aardwolves, whose tunes have been featured on Batwoman, Heartland, and Sportsnet.
