Jackie Westfall Music Supervises HBO Documentary ‘Slave Play. Not A Movie. A Play’, Tribeca World Premiere

Jackie Westfall (she/her) has music supervised the upcoming HBO Original Documentary Slave Play. Not A Movie. A Play, in which playwright Jeremy O. Harris directs and deconstructs his Tony-nominated drama, Slave Play.

Slave Play follows three interracial couples as they undergo “Antebellum Sexual Performance Therapy” and examines the intersection of generational racism and sexuality. Set in the context of workshopping the play, the documentary itself echos much of the play’s provocative themes, diving deep into Harris’ creative process and unapologetic boldness to push boundaries both on stage and on screen.

Originally running on Broadway at the John Golden Theatre from 2019 to 2020, Slave Play was nominated for twelve 2020 Tony Awards, including a nod for Best Play, which resulted in incendiary backlash that the film explores. The documentary also features a cast of actors from the William Esper Studio in addition to cast members from the 2019 production.

Slave Play. Not A Movie. A Play world premieres at Tribeca on June 10, and debuts later on HBO on June 20. For more information about tickets click here. You can also watch a trailer for the film below.
