Ghiya Rushidat Scores 2023 Annecy Selected Animated Short “Saleeg”

Composer Ghiya Rushidat (she/her) has scored the animated short Saleeg, created by Afnan Bawyan and produced by Cinepoetics Pictures. Following a lonely grandmother whose stubbornness causes a culinary catastrophe, the film is an official selection of the 2023 Annecy Festival and will be competing in the Perspectives category later this year in June.

Paired with the human touch of puppet animation, Ghiya’s use of a twinkling piano, playful percussion and bright strings creates a whimsical backdrop to this bizarre yet charming misadventure that unfolds to epic proportions due to the gradmother’s cooking.
