Spectra Clients at the 2023 American Black Film Festival and Talk Series

The American Black Film Festival is considered “the premiere film festival attracting a wide range of Black storytellers and diverse voices.” This year’s ABFF takes place in Miami Beach from June 14th through the 18th, with a wide range of submissions that will be showcased to viewers and prospective buyers while also competing to be a selected winner of the “Best of ABFF Awards.”

Spectra Creative Agency is proud to represent two composers whose work will be competing and screening at the festival, in addition to being included in one of the programmed panels.


Betye Saar: Ready To Be A Warrior

Betye Saar: Ready To Be A Warrior, scored by Stanley A. Smith and directed by Angela Robinson Witherspoon is a feature documentary about LA-based artist Betye Saar. It will screen at O Cinema South Beach, on June 17. “Make Better Art” is the phrase coined by famed 96 year old, Los Angeles based artist, Betye Saar. This film documents her incredible journey as a creator, teacher, artist, mother and Black woman in America…and her response to the civil rights movement in AMERIKA through her ART. The film previously won Best Documentary at the Burbank International Film Festival.


Three Ways

Three Ways, scored by EmmoLei Sankofa, is a sex comedy directed by Jamal Dedeaux and starring Andrea Lewis, Brittany S. Hall, and Jerrel O’Neal. This previous 2022 ABFF Official Selection will screen at the Miami Beach Convention Center in Screening Room 1 on June 15. The film revolves around innocent Stacey Johnson trying to take back her life by diving into a budding romantic relationship that unfolds in a very unexpected way.

Three Ways is the first original feature from Andscape, a Black-led media platform dedicated to creating, highlighting, and uplifting the diverse stories of Black identity. The group is one of ABFF’s notable and proud presenting sponsors.


Where Blackness is Infinite. Welcome Home

Three Ways composer EmmoLei Sankofa will discuss her work and her process on the panel “Where Blackness is Infinite. Welcome Home” along with entertainment journalist Tre’vell Anderson and film writer Joi Elaine. Moderated by Raina Kelley, Vice President and Editor-In-Chief of Andscape, the panel is a part of the ABFF 2023 Talk Series and will be held at the New World Center Truist Pavilion June 17.
