Rebekka Karijord Releases New Single, Announces New Solo Album

Singer, songwriter, and composer Rebekka Karijord has released the first single “May” from her upcoming album Complete Mountain Almanac. Rebekka’s rich vocals pair beautifully with delicately plucked guitars in this sorrowful yet cathartic folk hymn, a window into what lies ahead for the rest of the album.

The project began when Rebekka reached out to poet Jessica Dessner and proposed a collaboration on an album addressing climate change, comprising one song per month of the year. Shortly after, however, Jessica was diagnosed with breast cancer, halting the project indefinitely.

To Rebekka’s surprise, months later she received a manuscript from Jessica entitled Complete Mountain Almanac, which spoke of deeply human truths on a universal scale. With complete liberty given to her over these poems, Rebekka was immediately inspired and wrote “May,” the first of the twelve songs to touch upon themes such as nature, acceptance, hope, and death.

Rebekka recorded the album with Jessica's brothers Bryce and Aaron Dessner of The National, who feature on guitar and co-produced the album.

Complete Mountain Almanac will be released on January 27, 2023 on Bella Union. You can listen to “May” now on all platforms.
