The NAACP Image Awards have announced their nominees for the 53rd annual awards show. Among the nominees were She Dreams At Sunrise, the animated short scored by Stefan L. Smith, which has been nominated for Outstanding Short Form (Animated), and Disney’s Launchpad series, which features the short film Let’s Be Tigers scored by Tangelene Bolton, which has been nominated for Outstanding Short Form Series - Comedy or Drama.

She Dreams At Sunrise (Dir. Camrus Johnson) is a heartwarming animated film about a 70-year-old woman with meningitis living between her dream world and reality while her great nephew and caretaker helps mend the past. The film is a co-production between Tribeca and Proctor & Gamble. It first premiered in the 8:46 Films program of the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival.

Launchpad is an initiative started by Walt Disney Studio in 2020 to bring in a diverse slate of storytellers to develop and produce their short films. Among the inaugural slate of films, which released in May 2021 on Disney+, was Let’s Be Tigers (Dir. Stefanie Abel Horowitz) which tells the story of a babysitter who is processing and grieving the loss of her mother while babysitting an adorable little boy.
