‘Mars Express’, Co-Scored by Fred Avril, Wins 2024 Emile Award

The European Animation Awards Association was founded in 2017 by renowned animation professionals to celebrate the art of animation. The Association organizes the annual European Animation Awards (The Emile Awards) to celebrate and honor the talent and achievements in animation, from independent animators to animation studios throughout Europe.

This year composer Fred Avril (he/him) alongside his co-composer Philippe Monthaye have won the 2024 Emile Award for Best Soundtrack in Feature Film for their work scoring Mars Express, directed by Jeremie Perin and produced by Everybody on Deck Productions. This French animated feature follows Aline Ruby, an obstinate private detective, and Carlos Rivera, an android replica of his deceased partner, who throw themselves in a race against the clock across Mars to find Jon Chow, a simple cybernetics student who’s on the run, before the hitmen who are following him closely kill him.

Mars Express premiered during the 76th Cannes Film Festival in the Cinéma De La Plage program and was also part of the competitive slate of the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. We are incredibly proud of Fred’s involvement with such a critically lauded film and celebrate his and Philippe’s win!
