2023 Tribeca Roundup

Big news out of Tribeca! Cypher, the feature for which Jackie Westfall served as music consultant and clearances, won the top prize of Best US Narrative Feature! Congratulations to director Chris Moukarbel! In addition, The Graduates, music supervised by Taylor Rowley, was awarded Best Cinematography for the camerawork of Carolina Costa. Congratulations to Carolina and the whole team!

Over the weekend, Mary Lattimore and Shruti Kumar walked the red carpet at the premiere of  Uncharted, the feature documentary they scored, directed by Beth Aala. The premiere was followed by performances by Alicia Keys and the talented artists who participated in the She Is The Music songwriting camp that the film documents. 

Taylor Rowley attended screenings of the two films she music supervised – The Graduates (pictured above with director Hannah Peterson) and Somewhere Quiet, directed by Olivia West Lloyd.

Below is a brief description of each film:

Cypher

Cypher is directed by Chris Moukarbel; produced by Tony Hernandez, Lilly Burns, John Hodges, Tierra Whack, Sanjay M. Sharma, Roya Rastegar, Anthony Seyler, and Chris Moukarbel; and executive produced by John Janick, Steve Berman, Natalia-Leigh Brown, Johnny Montina, Kenete Simms, and Jake Fuller. This pseudo-documentary thriller follows the meteoric rise of rapper Tierra Whack’s career, revealing the dark underbelly of celebrity and success.

The Graduates

The Graduates is directed by Hannah Peterson; produced by Josh Peters, Saba Zerehi, Taylor Shung, and Jessamine Burgum; and executive-produced by Chloé Zhao, Kara Durrett, and John Cho. This directorial debut centers around a group of friends in their senior year who must deal with the wake of an unsettling tragedy.

Uncharted

Uncharted is a music documentary directed by Beth Aala; produced by Everywoman Studios; and executive produced by Alicia Keys, Ann Mincieli, Jody Gerson, Sam Kirby Yoh, Katie Couric, Brenda Robinson, and Abby Rodriguez. This film was part of the Spotlight+ program that paired live performance and conversation, and it explores behind the scenes of Alicia Keys’ songwriting camp She Is The Music, revealing the obstacles young BIPOC female songwriters face in a music industry working against them.

Somewhere Quiet

Somewhere Quiet is a horror thriller directed by Olivia West Lloyd; produced by Taylor Ava Shung, Emma Hannaway, and Eamon Downey; and executive produced by Mollye Asher, Mynette Louie, Derek Nguyen, Philip Erdoes, Steven H. Stodghill, David Kiger, Stephen Best, and Andy Youmans. This directorial debut follows an abduction victim, Meg, and her husband on what was meant to be a peaceful vacation that instead becomes an unsettling ordeal with the unannounced arrival of the husband’s aristocratic cousin. Hallucinations, nightmares, and unsettled secrets begin to surface that ultimately brings Meg to question the truth behind her kidnapping.
